Description

Cerium Acetate

A cerium(III) precursor for materials and catalyst research. Commercial grades may contain water of crystallisation; the supplied hydration form should be confirmed against the approved specification before use.

Cerium Acetate, also known as cerous acetate, is a cerium(III) salt of acetic acid used in ceria preparation, thin-film development and selected catalytic systems.

Reference identity — confirm supplied form

  • Chemical Name : Cerium(III) acetate / cerous acetate
  • Anhydrous Formula : Ce(CH₃COO)₃
  • General Hydrate Formula : Ce(CH₃COO)₃·xH₂O (x depends on hydration; not yet confirmed)
  • Reference CAS Numbers : 537-00-8 (anhydrous); 206996-60-3 (hydrate)
  • Formula Weight : 317.25 g/mol, anhydrous basis only (excludes water of crystallisation)
  • Typical Appearance : White to almost-white powder or crystals
  • Grade / Hydration / Packing : To be confirmed against the approved specification

These are reference alternatives, not two assigned product identities — select the CAS/formula matching the supplied material. This is reference data, not an approved product specification.

Applications

  • Ceria and materials preparation — an acetate precursor for cerium oxide synthesis; precursor chemistry and processing influence the resulting material properties.
  • Thin-film development — reported use in sol-gel processing for thin-film buffer layers associated with high-permittivity dielectric systems.
  • Catalyst research — reported use in selected oxidation chemistry, including cresol autoxidation; performance depends on the complete catalyst system and reaction conditions.

These are reported application areas, not performance guarantees for a Sontara grade. Cerium acetate is a precursor/reagent, not a finished ceria polishing powder or ready-to-use catalyst formulation.

Handling & Storage

Reference hydrate SDS information identifies skin irritation, serious eye damage and possible respiratory irritation. Avoid dust and contact; use ventilation, protective gloves, clothing and eye/face protection. Keep containers tightly closed, protected from light and away from strong oxidisers. Prevent release to drains. Follow the current product SDS for complete storage controls, first aid, disposal and transport requirements — this summary and the third-party hydrate SDS do not replace the SDS for the actual supplied material.
