Description
Cerium Nitrate Hexahydrate
Cerium(III) precursor for materials and catalyst synthesis. This product contains cerium(III) — it is not the same as ceric ammonium nitrate, which is a different, cerium(IV) compound; they are not interchangeable reagents.

Cerium Nitrate Hexahydrate, also known as cerium(III) nitrate hexahydrate or cerous nitrate hexahydrate, is a water-soluble cerium salt used as a precursor in cerium-based materials research and synthesis.

Reference data only — general chemical properties, not a batch certificate of analysis (COA) or a guaranteed sales specification.
Applications
- Ceria synthesis — a cerium source for preparation of cerium oxide (CeO₂), including nanostructured ceria studied in materials research.
- Catalyst development — precursor for ceria-based catalyst supports and related catalytic materials.
- Mixed-oxide materials — used in preparation of cerium-containing oxides, including ceria-zirconia systems.
These are application areas, not performance guarantees. Published research shows that precursor anions can affect the properties of resulting ceria nanoparticles — final particle characteristics and catalytic performance require process-specific validation; the nitrate salt itself is not finished nanoceria. Final material properties depend on precursor quality and the validated synthesis process.
Handling & Storage
Oxidizer: may intensify fire. Causes serious eye damage; very toxic to aquatic life with long-lasting effects. Avoid dust and contact; use suitable ventilation, gloves and eye/face protection. Keep tightly closed, cool and dry, away from combustibles and incompatible materials. Prevent environmental release. Follow the supplied SDS for full controls — this summary is not an SDS and does not establish suitability for food, medicinal or other regulated uses.
Request a Quotation
Discuss your product requirement with Sontara Organo Industries. Send your application, required purity basis and quantity. Grade, impurity limits, packing, availability and delivery terms are subject to written confirmation. State the test method and reporting basis for purity — rare-earth purity (often expressed as CeO₂/TREO) is not the same as whole-product assay or elemental cerium content. Request the approved specification, current SDS and batch COA.
